I was initially skeptical as to how this book would translate onto TV but I did not need to have worried - it is absolutely brilliant. It remains faithful to the book in the first few episodes and towards the end of the series expands on the plot and adds new storylines as well. It is beautifully made, and Elizabeth Moss is excellently cast. She is such a good actress! Unsurprisingly, The Handmaid's Tale is very bleak and there is no humour to balance this out. It is definitely not suitable for younger viewers. However, it is completely immersive and I have been binge-watching it!

This is brutal, tense and powerful drama.
Every frame looks like a Dutch master and the pacing is spot on for me.

Not just good, this is important and shows what scifi should be, the fertility crisis is fictional (or at least exaggerated) but the human responses are sickeningly real.

Just wow!
Amazing series,I was hooked instantly!
I went from feeling shocked to repulsed to close to tears and all the other emotions inbetween!
It can be hard watching at times but compelling at the same time!
I cannot wait for the second series!
Gripping stuff that's for sure!

Pretty faithful to the book. A very dark tale but also an original idea. Not the fastest pace but it still holds the attention. Not sure how they're going to spin out to a second series but this one is worth the watch.

When I first heard about this series, I thought it was one of those period pieces. However, having now streamed the first series, my understanding of what it is really about is complete. With the current misogynistic state of affairs over in the USA, this might reflect how bad things could get! Elisabeth Moss portrays her character with grit and determination, showing how hopeless the situation is, whilst at the same time proving that, eventually (hopefully) justice will prevail. I am halfway through series 2, which is on TV here in the UK and it would seem that the groundswell of opposition to the regime in force is growing. How art follows life and vice versa. Recommended but perhaps not for the faint-hearted or easily offended.

Really really good show, plot and some very good acting. Slightly depressing so you sort of have to be in a certain mood to watch it. I wouldn't say that it is scary, however some scenes are a little bit more difficult to watch, mentally. Towards the end I just couldn't stop watching it and finished the last 4 episodes in one go. Maybe a little bit slow at first but honestly worth it, cannot wait for the 2nd season.

Brilliant, if hard to watch adaption of a great book. Elizabeth Moss is amazing. Only criticism is episode 9; it isn't bad but for a show about women empowerment, it feels a bit out of place.

very dark and sometimes abit gruesome, the hanging scenes send shivers down my spine! but you can imagine this kind of thing really happening, especially under sharia law!.

Not something to watch in the background or if you're looking for an easy bit of entertainment. Some brilliant acting and the script is very smart. Moments of humorous relief here and there, but mostly dark and foreboding. Plenty to keep you interested and wanting to watch the next episode the moment one ends. I would recommend everyone watch it.
